Abstract:In this article I present personality disorders and the usefulness of
the multiaxial assessment in psychiatry. Personality disorders and mental
retardation are coded on Axis II (DSM-IV) and postulate dispositions that
make people prone to certain mental state disorders – from psychotic
states till affective disorders – mostly depression with risk of suicidal
attempts. Therefore the recognition of personality disorders is necessary
for a better treatment plan and the prognosis of the disorder.
